Television is a writers medium- Dipti Kalwani

Producer Dipti Kalwani (Sunny Side Up) is ecstatic as her show Badho Bahu completes one year. This is a proud moment for the producer. “It’s been one year and we have made more than 260 episodes today. I feel very happy and grateful to the universe,” she says.
The show has a wedding coming up and a new twist in the show can be expected, says the producer.  Explaining the storyline that the show will follow, she says, “Along with Chotu Bahu, Lucky and Badho get married this time with a lot of respect and love with each other. This is their second marriage. Last time they got married forcefully but this time it is happening with their own consent. The big twist in the story will be the starting of Kushti after a really high dramatic point.”
The show is being enjoyed by a variety of audience since it’s first episode. Talking about the reason behind this, Dipti says, “The show has very interesting characters and has a slice of life storyline with an authentic Haryanvi flavour, which helps to hold the story. We also ensure that we keep the audience entertained through various things. It's entertaining as well as very identifiable.”
Talking about what works in making a show successful, Dipti says it is always the story. “Content is absolutely the king. Television is a writers medium, it’s all about good characters and stories,” she says.
The audience has also diversified, says Dipti. “A lot of people are watching shows on their mobile screen so there is no more television audience. Things are changing very fast and there is so much content available. It has become very difficult to survive. The viewers have so many options. There are digital platforms, international shows plus the local content. So there are no such things as the television audience. So it is difficult for us as the makers to give something new always but at the same time, it is also exciting to create something new and different,” she adds.
The producer says that she has got some great compliments from the audience, especially women. “I have got a lot of compliments from women, who have come around to accept their weight. And have felt inspired and more confident after watching the show. So I feel I have made a difference somewhere even if it is a small one,” she says. Badho Bahu is produced by Sunny Side Up (Dipti Kalwani) and Hum Tum Telefilms (Teena Swayyam and Sushant Kumar)
